Moorland Hotel and B&B, Exmoor, North Devon: Customer Reviews

“Lovely hotel”
We stayed for 4 nights in the self catering apartment which was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Location is great for visiting local beaches and places of interest, and the owners were charming. Don't miss Woolacombe beach or the candle maker in Lynton. For a lovely meal the Station Hotel about 4 miles away is good value for money.

“Relaxing wonderful stay.”
We only stayed here for two nights, but wished it could have been more. The owners Mark and Desi were fantastic, so friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to make our stay a relaxing comfortable one. The two bedroomed apartment was lovely, clean and very comfortable and the cooked breakfast was delicious! The surrounding countryside is just breathtaking and we will definitely be back. Thank you so much for making our stay such a memorable one.

“Fantastic hotel, great location, lovely staff.”
We stayed in 2 bedroom apartment on a bed and breakfast basis. Apartment was really clean and comfortable with good sized lounge and more than adequate kitchenette. Breakfast as good as any we've had. The couple running it couldn't be more accommodating.

“Get away from the ratrace”
The owners of the hotel were the nicest most genuine people you could wish to meet. Made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived and felt like whatever we asked was not too much trouble. The accommodation was clean and spacious. We stayed in the Dean Suite and the location was perfect for a getaway from all the stresses of life and work!

“Perfect Stay”
When we arrived we felt welcome immediately - we were shown to our private unit which had its own lounge area - a huge bonus for us. We enjoyed a great stay and a top quality breakfast in the morning. Couldn't do enough for us - many thanks for a great stay.

“Excellent Hotel - Brilliant Location - Top People”
Moorlands Hotel is an excellent place to stay. It is in a perfect location for visiting North Devon's lovely towns and beaches. The hotel is situated within acres of tranquil and peaceful gardens, which are ideal for young and old to enjoy. We stayed in the one bedroom apartment (Dean Suite), which is spacious and has everything you need if you prefer self catering. The owners, Mark and Desi are perfect hosts.

“Great Experience!”
Stayed for 4 nights in wonderfully equipped self catering apartment. Good location for hiking and general sight seeing. Excellent hosts and reasonable price. The apartment was clean and obviously well cared for. Good wifi reception in hotel lounge, despite remote location. One could not have asked for more. Look forward to paying another visit to this gem of a place.

“A wonderful location and charming welcoming hosts”
My return to Moorlands this time was on my own, to spend 2 days driving at the adjacent Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. The warmth of the welcome felt like coming home and the refurbished single room was truly superb. The grounds in the evening are magical - full of birdsong and beautiful spring flowers. Because I had to leave at 07:15 to prepare the steam locomotive across the garden I could not take breakfast at the hotel but so helpful are the hosts that they offered to provided me with a "take-away" breakfast for collection a little later which was truly wonderful. A truly special place!

“Peace and quiet”
We stayed at this hotel but in their one bedroom apartment, it was very clean and comfortable, and lovely and warm . Mark and Desi are very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, they welcomed us like old friends. I would highly recommend it for the flexibility of self catering and will definitely go again.

“Excellent B&B”
We stayed at Moorlands for two nights recently. The business had only recently changed hands and the new owners were extremely friendly and welcoming. Spotlessly clean and quiet with a comfy bed and an excellent breakfast - all in all a good choice!

“Awesome homely hotel!!!!”
We are sat in the lounge of the hotel after a very long journey just days after the 10th anniversary of my young sons death for a much needed break and so far so good! Fantastic welcome, homely and welcoming patrons, beautiful building. We were welcomed by the gorgeous Chloe (just turned 3!), Desi and Mark and made to feel right at home. As seasoned travellers we have never been welcomed with an honesty bar, such a warm welcome or somewhere we are left to turn the lights off when we go to bed. Or somewhere which allows us to pop our own wine in the fridge corkage free and brings us their own personal peanuts when we are peckish! Thank you so much and looking forward to the rest of our stay with you.

“A lovely hotel”
We stayed at Moorlands for a week and stayed in the Dean suite as we had our little dog with us. What a fantastic place. Desi and Mark are lovely people. Desi cooked fantastic breakfasts, we had a small but could have had a large if we wanted. Our little dog settled so well and really enjoyed it as much as we did. Beautiful grounds a lovely homely suite with its own little courtyard and perfect hosts. What more can you ask for. We are really looking forward to staying there again on our next visit to North Devon.

“The hotel has some wonderful history”
The hotel has some wonderful history and the location is idilic if you're after uninterrupted views of the stunning Devon landscape. Location-wise it's very easy to get to the stunning Lynmouth and Lynton. We booked the self catering apartment which is on the top floor of the hotel. Everything was very clean and there were nice touches like soaps, teas, coffees, biscuits and more provided in the apartment. Unusual for self catering but very nice indeed. We opted for breakfast included, which was delicious. All in all a very lovely stay and would recommend to anyone wanting to explore the area.

“Travellers Choice”
Even while we were late we had a lovely welcome by the hostess: she was very kind, open and hospitable. Excellent shower - perfect breakfast (best of the 4 B&B's we visited in SW England) - family room was nice and clean; very quiet - nice setting. We just felt very welcome! Tip when visiting the Vally of Rocks: when you leave the B&B heading to the North, just turn directly left and enjoy the scenery when you follow the coastline toward the Vally of Rocks and Lynton. Located next to Woody Bay Station, the highest railway station in Southern England and part of the Lynton & Barnstaple railway.

“We loved Moorlands and everything about it. A big Thank you to our hosts who made it all enjoyable.”
We slept far better than usual which was wonderful. The hosts were delightful, kind and gave us so much useful info on the area. The grounds were natural and very beautiful to walk in. Moorlands also benefits from having the steam railway adjacent to it which proved a great attraction. The hotel is clean and the breakfasts very good. It still has the character of the original house but bathrooms etc have been modernised to give guests the best of both worlds. The wifi in the lounge and reception area is a huge benefit as 3G let alone 4G is non existent in the area. This was very much appreciated by all guests. We would certainly recommend Moorlands. We stayed in a self catering part which was really good but we could not resist joining the rest of our family at breakfast time. The tables were laden with such a choice of good food and the service was both friendly and excellent. We could not have wished for more. There was nothing about Moorlands that we did not like and enjoy. We will in future be visiting Lynton and Lynmouth to see family and will certainly be staying at Moorlands!

Breakfast was served in a delightful room and was delicious. This hotel adheres to old-fashioned values and I mean that in the nicest possible way.
